@Eddie,

You got it right. Godaddy users should the find the MySQL host address from their control panels & connect through SQLyog.

although i follow the discussion ok, i was using a godaddy hosting server, so the
"mysql" for name of connection doesn't work. You need to go to the hosting conrol panels and look at the setup options to find out the name the host uses- it isn't hard to find. In my case it is '
.db..hostedresource.com' ( i am leaving out pertinent details for security reasons).
Then that connection will fail anyway; i am not sure why. However the http tunnel connection will work, so everything is fine after that!!!

@Rohit,

I'm afraid I haven't used Toad. I do not know if TOAD has HTTP-Tunneling at all.

@Arne,

First step is to get your authentication details right. Please contact your hosting provider for the MySQL host address. Once you are sure of it, we can help further.

I can't get connection on my provider. I think I have checked all: MySql hostaddress to mysgl, username, password, checked for tunneling, set the url to:
http://www.myown.dk/SQLyogTunnel.php

I can activate the SQLyogTunnel.php by browser, but not by the connection. What else can I do wrong., or is it possible that it is impossible to connect.

For secure tunnelling you can use HTTPS. But of course the webserver must support it.

It is difficult for us to tell what options are available with your hosting. As you have 5.14 you can start trying with it! Only the 'connection manager' interface is a little bit different than with later version. You can also try with 7.12 TRIAL (they can be installed at the same time to different folders). But note than that you will need the 'matching' tunneler for each version (if you need them both at the same time, you can rename of course).

But for HTTP(S) tunnelling there is only very little difference between the versions. Most important we have added an option to specify different HTTP-content-types (but only very few users will need to care about that).

Please create a support ticket or post in our Forums should you encounter problems.

OK, thank you.

My second question is that usually web hosting companies disable remote MySQL access due to security concerns.

Those who do enable it usually do it only over SSL. Can SQLyogTunnel.php be used over SSL as well ?

thanks,
--Amit.

@Amit

Version history suggests that tunneling was supported in SQLyog v5.14.

v5.14 was released in June 2006. We made a lot of changes in tunneling & functionalities since then. So, I would advise you to use the latest version.
