SQLyog – MySQL GUI 8.5 GA | Brand new Tabbed Interface!

Chirag

Hi,

We are pleased to announce the release of SQLyog – MySQL GUI 8.5 GA. Below are some pointers:

  • As the title suggests this release comes with tabbed interface for different connections. We need not have to emphasize the usability of a tabbed interface vs. a windowed one. All web browsers have already demonstrated it to us. Now in SQLyog, you can switch between different connections in a snap! We didn’t forget to add keyboard shortcuts to jump from one tab to other. Most – if not all – shortcuts for tabs of a standard web browser would work with SQLyog. Multi-coloring of connection tabs & object browser pane adds to the ease of use. Chances of one executing queries in one server than the other by mistake would be rare as the brain would easily grasp the connection by it’s color. Demoed below is a typical setup of multi-colored tabs in a Web Developer’s PC:
Typical setup of a Web Developer
  • If you remember we added client side sorting of Result set data in SQLyog 8.4. With this release you can even filter the data of Result set on client side unlike Table Data where a query is fired to server for every sort or filter action. One more addition to view relevant data quickly.
  • Who likes to right-click & open a file when you can just drag-and-drop? We bet you don’t. You can drag-and-drop files (SQL or Schema Design XML/Query Builder XML) directly into SQLyog.
  • Whoever uses SQLyog for data entry or manipulation would love this feature to duplicate data in a record. Many a time all one needs is to change only few fields & retain the rest of the data from the preceding row. This feature would come handy in such cases. Tables with auto_increment columns are handed automatically.

This release also contains many more enhancements & bug fixes. Refer the following release notes for details:

SQLyog customers can download the latest installer from Webyog’s Customer Portal.
To evaluate SQLyog, please download the 30-day trial.

We are very excited about this release, and hope that you will like it. We would love to hear from you.

Cheers,
Team SQLyog

    Follow the Firefox design for your tabs, looks way better.
    Just a suggestion, though.

    국맘의 생각…

    SQLYog가 탭 형태의 인터페이스로 변경되었다. 우왕.. 빨리 업그레이드 해야지…..

    This is one of the best updates of SQLyog ever. I really liked tabbed browsing and discovery of redundant indexes.

    You folks are the BEST!

    My much-requested addition of background colors for usability in the prior version has been so helpful leading to lower stress/concentration requirements as expected. I simply don’t make the too-quick-fingers-slow-brain mistakes.

    Now, with the tabs and color-cues, EVEN BETTER! Not to mention, too, the very subtle addition of the color-cue in the drop-down list of the connection selection dialog.

    All told, you folks are showing a great attention to very subtle yet important usability issues. This is why SQLyog is among my personal favorite development and site maintenance tools. I would kick and scream if anyone tried to take it away from me.

    Thank you again for being so good and listening to your uses,
    –Sohodojo Jim–

    I like the tabs but feel kind of foolish because mine aren’t color-coded and I can’t figure out how to make them appear in different colors. Can someone tell me how?

    Thanks,
    Larry

    How can I set see “ALL ROW” for all my 385 table????

  14. July 12th, 2010 | 6:06 am

    @all,

    Thanks for the appreciation & feedback.

    @AAA727,

    Thanks for the suggestion on tabs, we’ll consider it during redesign. We’ll also fix the screen flicker in upcoming release.

    @Joe,

    To replicate the connections in a new installation replace the file sqlyog.ini found in appdata folder with the old one.

    Windows 7 or Vista: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\SQLyog
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\
    \Application Data\SQLyog

    @Larry,

    We have attempted to address your query here: http://www.webyog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5260

  15. July 12th, 2010 | 12:49 pm

    @Charlie, Currently there is no way to set “ALL ROW” for all tables at once. It has to be set at the table level.

    Yes! Great design changes, guys. :)

    The reality these days is many many people spend more time in a web browser than any other single program, so the major browsers’ tab- and window-related keyboard shortcuts–thank God they agree!–are pretty deeply engrained.

    One assignment I ask be caught up with the rest is Ctrl-W for closing the current (editor) tab instead of the current connection. That way it’s in opposition to Ctrl-T as it is in browsers. Ctrl-F4 alone should suffice for closing the connection.

    Thanks again!

    @Chirag But why with SQLyog 8.18 I can do that (Tool > Preference > Other > “All row” selected in DATA tab has effect globally) and now not?

    Please read release notes for 8.3:
    http://www.webyog.com/blog/2010/03/09/sqlyog-mysql-gui-8-3-has-been-released/

    “The default LIMIT setting for DATA tab has been removed. The setting is not required since we introduced table-level persistence for number of rows displayed. The default for new tables that have not been opened before is 50 – but when user changes the value and next ‘refresh’es SQLyog will save the LIMIT for that particular table persistently across sessions.”

    So we thought that the global setting in preference would be unnecessary and also confusing with the introduction of ‘row-number-persistence’ across sessions. But I understand that you are missing the global setting (what would then only be a default value for tables that were never opened before)?

    Is there anyway to save a tab set? I would like to open a set of connections in one click.

    thanks,

    Jesse

  20. September 9th, 2010 | 6:39 am

    @Jesse, there is no way to do it as of now. But its a nice suggestion, added to wish-list: http://code.google.com/p/sqlyog/issues/detail?id=1470
